Abstract

This report presents a statistical summary of U.S. agricultural shipments made under U.S. Government concessional exportorograms. Food and other agricultural commodities have been provided under P.L. 480 to many people to meet emergency situations, to supply nutritional needs, and to assist in the economic development of recipient countries. During the 18 fiscal years considered here (1972-1989), $20.7 billion worth of U.S. farm products were exported under P.L. 480. An additional $3.0 billion worth were shipped under the Commodity Import Program of the Agency for International Development and $1.0 billion worth under Section 416(b), as amended. Total U.S. Government concessional exports amounted to $24.7 billion, 5 percent of total agricultural exports during the period.
