Abstract

Excerpts from the Preface: In order to help supply the vegetable-oil requirements of this country and its allies in 1942, a substantial increase is needed in the production of soybeans. The Mississippi Delta is an area in which it appears that farmers can profitably make a large increase in the production of soybeans for oil in 1942. This report summarizes the experience of 50 farmers who have produced soybeans for oil, the results of Experiment station work, and the opinions of Experiment Station and Extension Service workers. The information should prove helpful to present producers as well as to prospective new producers. Although many of these production data are based on information obtained from farmers in the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta, the recommendations and conclusions are generally applicable to delta conditions throughout Arkansas and Louisiana, as well as in Mississippi.
