Abstract

This report presents in summary form, information concerning the recent levels of agricultural production, expected short-run changes in production and desirable long-time adjustments for the major areas of the Southern Great Plains. This material has been developed over the past several months by the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, with informal cooperation by workers in State Colleges and Experiment Stations and regional personnel of the various action agencies. Consideration has been given to the recommendations for production adjustment made by State and county agricultural planning committees. An attempt is made in this report to analyze the agricultural adjustments now under way and in prospect in the light of the needs of the war emergency period and with respect to desirable long-run- adjustments. Two sets of adjustments are considered: (1) probable adjustments during the defense period and a discussion of the desirability of these changes; and (2) desirable long-time adjustments.
