Abstract

Excerpts from the paper: This document first details the data bank and variable naming conventions adopted by the Forecast Support Group (FSG) of the Commodity Economics Division, ERS to facilitate its data related operations on the Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates/Boeing Computer Services, Inc. (WEFA/Boeing) System and then provides a directory of the variables currently residing on its banks. The data being placed on the WEFA/BOEING System are comprised essentially of U.S. domestic prices and supply and disappearance statistics and other statistics to support the FSG models. Emphasis is being placed on collection of U.S. aggregate statistics with state, region, and city data placed on the system as required for empirical work. Specialized data for analytical support of individual program areas within CED has also been loaded into the system. Foreign data has been placed on the banks only on an as needed basis. The following discussion details the FSG's data bank and variable names, descriptions, units and source for each variable on the three historic data banks.
