Abstract

Excerpts from the report: In 1961, the United States production of truck crops for fresh market and processing occupied nearly 3.5 million acres of cropland. These crops used slightly more than 1 percent of the total cropland. The farm value of truck crops harvested for sale approached $1.2 billion, or an average of $333 per acre harvested. This report presents information on labor requirements, production practices, and costs involved in the production of truck crops in Cameron and Hidalgo Counties, Tex. It is the fifth in a group covering the 12 survey areas.
