Quantity of imports increased by 5 percent. Supplementary (partially competitive) imports gained 8 percent in value and 6 percent in quantity while complementary (noncompetitive) items fell 1 percent in value but gained 4 percent in volume. Agricultural commodities accounted for 24 percent of total U.S. imports for consumption in fiscal year 1963.
