Abstract

Excerpts from the report: Farmers' financial interest in the 10,056 marketing and farm supply cooperatives listed with Farmer Cooperative Service for 1954 is estimated at a total of $1,808,861,000. Farmers' equities in marketing cooperatives amounted to $1,216,844,000; in farm supply associations, $592,017,000. These figures represent an increase of 39 percent above the $1,298,431,000 reported for marketing and farm supply associations for 1950. This is an average annual increase over the 4 years of 9.8 percent, using 1950 as a base. Estimates for 1954 of farmers' equities in their marketing and farm supply cooperatives were made possible by reports from individual cooperatives on equity capital furnished Farmer Cooperative Service. These figures were part of its nationwide study of methods of financing farmer cooperatives.
