Expanding Recycling Horizons: USDA Forest Service Research

Author

Listed:
  • Forest Service

Abstract

Excerpts from the report: The USDA Forest Service's stewardship responsibilities include ensuring wise and efficient use of the Nation's timber resources. Our interest in recycling as a key method of conserving resources began over 40 years ago. Expanding recycling technology fits well with our long history of wood products research. In fact, Congress mandated our participation in recycling research in the National Forest Management Act of 1976. Since then, the Forest Service has taken an active role in gaining the knowledge needed for developing technologies to convert paper and wood wastes into useable products.
