Abstract

Excerpts from the report Introduction: This report is one in a series of studies designed to find out consumers' opinions of fibers used in the manufacture of selected textile products. It is primarily an examination of mothers' experiences and preferences in regard to fibers in nine selected items of children's clothing, but this bulletin also includes related data. Decision to study a particular product is based on such factors as shifts in the consumption of fibers used in manufacturing the end-product, changes in consumer consumption, and interest in promoting research for improvement in the fibers. Additional data collected in the survey related to garment characteristics mothers say they look for when buying children's anklets and socks, and snowsuits ; mothers' experiences with the present system of size labeling used on children's clothing; mothers attitudes toward labeling on children's garments; the extent to which mothers use feed sacks for making items of children’s clothing.
