Abstract

Excerpt from the report Preface: Under conditions of relatively full employment in the national economy, defense mobilization brought renewed attention to the need for facts regarding the manpower situation in agriculture. To contribute to this objective the United States Department of Agriculture, in cooperation with State and other Federal agencies, undertook a series of special studies on current agricultural manpower problems. Reports of these studies issued and in preparation are listed on the inside of the back cover page. This report deals with one segment of the national manpower picture -- the occupational distribution of men who have been discharged from the Armed Forces since the outbreak of hostilities in Korea. The information was obtained for the United States Department of Agriculture by the Bureau of the Census in its June 1953 Current Population Survey.
