Farmers' Mutual Windstorm Insurance

Abstract

Excerpt from the report Summary: Of the approximately 1,900 mutual insurance companies that have more than half of their windstorm insurance on farm property, 65 are specialized windstorm companies and about 348 are fire mutuals that also offer windstorm insurance. The extent of the operations of about half of the specialized windstorm mutuals, and a third of the fire-wind mutuals, is at least State-wide. Most of the specialized companies are located in the North Central States, whereas about a third of the fire-wind companies are located in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The 413 companies probably had more than 13.5 billion dollars of windstorm insurance in force at the end of 1950, of which about 6.5 billions were on the books of the specialized companies.
