Market Outlets for Extra Long Staple Cotton in the United States

Abstract

Excerpts from the report Summary: The study of market outlets for extra long staple cotton, on which this report is based, had for one of its main purposes the determination of the quantities and qualities of extra long staple cotton required in the manufacture of various cotton textile products. Of the several factors mentioned as having an influence on the market outlets for extra long staple cotton, the following are considered to be the most important (1) the quantities of extra long cotton available, (2) price relationships, and (3) general economic conditions. A forecast as to the number of bales to be consumed in the year ahead would be hazardous, but the trend in recent years has been toward larger consumption of this type of cotton, and no change in this trend is now apparent, aside from the present stimulation due to urgent military needs.
