Abstract

This report, based on research at the Red River Valley Potato Research Center, East Grand Forks, Minn., is part of a project to develop more efficient work methods for off-farm handling of late -crop potatoes. Potato fluming, which probably originated in a plant in Torrington, Wyo. , is the moving of potatoes from one point to another by means of water flowing through a sluice or flume connecting the two points. Flume systems are so designed that the desired volume of potatoes and water can be put into the flume at the receiving end, and the potatoes taken out and the water disposed of on the discharge end. In most systems the water is recovered and recirculated.
