Abstract

The paper presents the newly developed methodology for defining a socio-economic structure of farms, which was developed to analyse the socio-economic structure of Slovene farms based on data from Agricultural holdings census performed in year 2000. Developed methodology enables to define four main socio-economic types of farms: fulltime, part-time, supplementary and aged, based on data about employment status and work engagement of the core members of the farm’s family. The results are showing that among the farm types there is the highest share of supplementary farms, followed by part-time farms. The share of full-time farms is significantly lower from previous two. Comparison to previous census shows the significant rise of supplementary farms on account of the part-time farms.
