Abstract

Assim, o objetivo deste artigo é discutir as variáveis estruturais, conjunturais e institucionais que levam os produtores agrícolas dessas regiões a migrarem da pecuária de corte, para a cana-de-açúcar.-----------------------------------The world´s crescent necessity of using renewable energy guides the country to go forward a new step on the sugar cane growth, although the one used on the last decades. Structural elements, as the occupation of areas that was used by other cultures before; Conjuctural elements, as the money invested by foreigners investors and the increased demand of alternative fuels in the world; Institutional elements, as the extinction of firing the sugarcane straw, has been changing the cities scenario in the Sao Paulo State. In this state, the crescent demand of ethanol keeps on the substitution of traditional cultures by the sugarcane culture, like orange, corn, manioc, coffe, and others. Specifically in Araçatuba and President Prudente regions, where the main production is made of cattle raising, occurs the substitution of this culture by sugarcane and its sub products. Then, the objective of this paper is making an analysis of the structural, conjuctural and institutional elements that make these regions´ agricultural producers migrate from breeding cattle to sugarcane culture.
