Abstract

The paper aims to describe the biodiesel chain and to investigate the profitability of Brasil Ecodiesel by Method Dupont between 2006 and 2007. The study shows characteristics of case study with focus in the company Brazil Ecodiesel, selected by the recent IPO event and the representatively in the participation of the auctions of Brazilian Petroleum and Biocombustibles Agency. The generalized preoccupation with the environmental and the carbon capture options increased the necessity to studies development by finance professionals and students to discover the emerging sectors concerned to environmental sustainability by the impact in the finance markets, industrial production and balanced development. The faces of the innovative chain may be inferred from the continuity and the profitability of its organizations. So the accounting analyses may offer an empiric and relevant repository to understand the start-up chain of biodiesel by the return of investment indicators. The findings suggested Brasil Ecodiesel showed slow and negative return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), margin and turn off indicators. Besides there is not a strong evidence of discontinuity of the company, the results reinforce the thesis that biodiesel as technological innovation has its low profitability in the cost or scale of the production nowadays
