Abstract

------------------------------------------------------------------ This study ranked the agropolos of Ceará under its index of environmental degradation. It used secondary data relating to municipalities cearenses grouped into agropolos. It identified a number of causes of the phenomenon defined from literature. These causes were represented by indicators grouped into three aspects: 10 economic, 6 environmental and 6 social. They were constructed index of degradation for each point. The agropolos Inhamuns Norte, Cariri Oeste and Sertão de Canindé were the most susceptible to degradation when analyzed simultaneously in the three aspects should be prioritized by environmental policies. Some agropolos require targeted measures in the mitigation of environmental degradation as sanitation, education programmes and a service extension to guide the farms in practice a management that respects the environment. The study made a preliminary analysis of the environmental degradation of agropolos cearenses pointing only those most susceptible to the phenomenon are needed in deepening the results from primary data.
