Abstract

However, academic studies have proved the economical inviability of this bean in the small farms. In front of this, the aim of this study is to verify the factors which conduct these small farmers to continue cultivating this commodity, even in a context of economic-production inviability. This research chose as field work the South’s small municipality Vitória das Missões, which is characterized for its reduced properties’ sizes, and for the broad dissemination of soybean plant in this context. As methodological procedures, structured questionnaires were used to interview small producers which were directly involved with soy’s production. The results show that the main influential factors were related to the facilities for the production trade, to the availability of rural credit for the production, and to lack of knowledge of others feasible agricultural cultures.
