Abstract

O manejo do apiário (em especial troca de cera) se relaciona com a escolaridade dos apicultores.----------------------------------------------The Southeast of São Paulo is the second major region in beekeeping of the state, having totalized a production value in 2006 of R$ 3.052.402 with 17.315 beehives. In 2006 the honey producers around Capão Bonito there were beekeepers who had the beekeeping as the principal income source until those family farmers who had this rural activity as an alternative source of income. These characteristics has shown production systems with different technologic levels, and also different operational costs. The objective of this study was to characterize deeply the different kind of beekeeper by the level of technology used in the production system and his social and economic profile. It was applied 25 questionnaires over a sample of beekeepers. The methodology used was the Multivariate analysis. Small beekeepers are related with low productivity, loss in scale of production, pasture apiculture near from home, participation on rural neighborhood association. The group of big beekeepers is related with high productivity, great number of beehives, visits twice a week at the apiculture pasture and participation on a specific beekeepers association.
