Abstract

The main objective of this work is to analyze the Brazilian export list, and the importance of the international trade with some countries to the Brazilian economy, during the period of 1996 to 2005. The analysis was made with some indicators of international trade to Brazil, and to the countries that together represented at least 50% of the Brazilian export list in this period. It was analysed the ten most exported products for each country in monetary value, including Brazil. It was used database of the United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Database – UN COMTRADE to identify the main trading partners of Brazil, and the most exported products. The results showed that the Brazilian export list is very dependant of the performance of primary products, while the other countries, except for Argentina, have a more diversified guideline. However, the Brazilian export list has been changed, with the exportation of radio and TV transmitters, television cameras, motor vehicles for transport of persons and aircraft, spacecraft and satellites. And also, the results showed that Brazil doesn’t seem to be so important to the external commerce of your main trading partners; it shows that Brazil is very dependant of these nations, and it gives to Brazil less purchasing power. So, policies to foster the enlarging of the Brazilian export list are necessary, as well as to reduce the Brazilian dependence of only a few trading partners.
