Abstract

---------------------------The paper analyses the evolution, from 1992 to 2006, of average earnings of employees in enterprises whose main activity is a crop cultivation, particularly sugar cane, bananas, coffee, soybean or corn, in Brazil, showing that the increase in average earnings in the period 2001-2006 is strongly correlated to the variation of the real minimum wage. The paper also analyses the evolution of earnings in the harvest by contract work of sugar cane, orange, lemon, tangerine, coffee and cotton in the state of São Paulo, from 1995 to 2007. These earnings also show an increasing trend after 2001. For the majority of the crops analyzed, the labor productivity in the harvest by contract work shows an increasing trend.
