Abstract

Obteve-se disposição a pagar (DAP) nula, isto é, o valor atribuído ao Engenho Central pela população de Piracicaba foi nulo.-----------------------------------------This article presents an estimate of the economic value of Engenho Central, located in Piracicaba (SP). It was founded in 1881, deactivated in 1974 and recognized as historical patrimony. The Engenho Central turned into major cultural, artistic and recreational place. To measure the values of use, existence and option, was chosen the contingent valuation method. This method is one of the most commonly used approaches for valuation of assets with characteristics of non-exclusive and non-rivalry. The willingness to pay (WTP) was zero, that is, the Piracicaba population’s perceived no importance regarding the Engenho Central.
