Abstract

The article intends to identify changes in the patterns of Brazilian agribusiness exports in the last years towards diversification or concentration, following the categories of destinations (regional economic zones) and products. Therefore, Hirschman Index (HI) is estimated in order to measure concentration/diversification of exports in the last 10 years. Results indicate that there was a clear trend toward diversification in the destinations of exports, but there is little evidence that there was diversification in products exported. Currency fluctuation and prices of exports were identified as factors that affected the performance of traditional products exports. In those years that Real currency devaluated against dollar, exports patters changed towards concentration, and the opposite was identified in those years that Real currency appreciated.
