Abstract

In Brazil, there are great heterogeneities regarding the per capita income. Thus, we used data from 5.425 Brazilian Counties to study important determinant aspects of formation of municipal per capita income. Exploratory spatial data analysis and spatial regression modeling were the techniques applied in this work. As main results, we can emphasize three: 1) there are great municipal disparities regarding the individual incomes; 2) the exploratory spatial data analysis indicated the existence of spatial dependence with respect to the average municipal per capita income; and 3) the spatial regression models showed that variations regarding the education, job level, performance of the economic sectors and tax revenue tend to result in significant variations, in the same sense, on the municipal per capita income.
