Competitividade Da Fruticultura Potiguar: O Caso Do Melão No Periodo De 1996 A 2005

Abstract

Este estudo teve por objetivo analisar a competitividade das exportações do melão do Rio Grande do Norte no cenário nacional, bem como sua participação e importância para o comércio exterior brasileiro, no período de 1996 a 2005. Utilizou-se os indicadores de desempenho da competitividade das exportações: Vantagens Comparativas Reveladas (VCR) e a Taxa de Cobertura (TC). O Melão, principal fruta exportada pelo Estado do Rio Grande do Norte no período em análise, apresentou substancial incremento na pauta de exportações, chegando a ser o segundo produto mais exportado pelo Estado perdendo apenas para os produtos derivados de Petróleo. Este fato é explicado, basicamente pelos ganhos em competitividade, que foram influenciados por condições internas favoráveis ao desenvolvimento da agricultura irrigada em especial a fruticultura. This study aimed to examine the competitiveness of the exports of melons do Rio Grande do Norte in the national scene, as well as its participation in importance to the Brazilian foreign trade, from 1996 to 2005. It was used indicators of performance of the competitiveness of exports: comparative advantages Reveladas (VCR) and the rate of coverage (CT). The Melon, the main fruit exported by the State of Rio Grande do Norte in the period under review, showed substantial increase in tariff for exports, reaching be the second most product exported by the State losing only for products derived from oil. This fact is explained basically by gains in competitiveness, which were influenced by internal conditions for the development of irrigated agriculture in particular Fruits.
