Abstract

This study examined some aspects of rice production in Kura local government area of Kano State. Structured questionnaires were the main instrument used for data collection from fifty (50) randomly selected respondents. As may be appropriate, potential tools used for anaiyzing the data collected includes descriptive statistics, farm budgeting and production model. The result of the study showed the gross margin of_x0002_N23,04/kg. The result also revealed that the net income for rice production in the study area was N2.43. production was statistically significant at P<0.01, while all other variables were not significant at that level. Rice production constraint identified in the study area include high input cost and limited access to farm credit, inappropriate farmers' management practices, pest and diseases, soil degradation, persistent use of poor quality seed and lack of research and extension support. However, to reap the benefits of rice production in the area, cost of inputs should · be reduced through provision of subsidies and credit facilities should be provided. Effective management practices and support from well trained extension personnel need to be encouraged.
