Abstract

The study examined the resource use efficiency and nature of returns to scale that prevails in small scale soybean fanns in Dass and Toro local government areas ·of Bauchi State. The data for the study were collected from 72 respondents in the two local government areas using simple random sampling technique. The instrument for the data collection was a pre - tested questionnaire. The data were anlaysed using simple descriptive statistics, farm budget model and Cobb - Douglas production function model. Farmers realized an average net farm income of N8, 200.63/ha. Decreasing returns to scale prevails in study area. Seeds labour and operating expenses were used above economic optimum level while land was used below economic optimum level. Inadequate provision of credit facilities, hig~ cost and inadequate provision of inputs and poor extension service delivery are the major constraints to increased soybean production in the study area. Provision of credit facilities, farm inputs and resource adjustment are recommended.
