Les nématodes de la canne à sucre à Barbade

Abstract

Dans les vertisols de Barbade, après la plantation, les peuplements de nématodes endoparasites importants observés dans les racines de bouture pourraient perturber le développement des tiges primaires. Les peuplements de nématodes ectoparasites, dominés par Helicotylenchus concavus, sont à priori peu pathogènes et ne peuvent pas expliquer la diminution brutale des longueurs des tiges en repousse. L'existence de faibles populations de nématodes endoparasites dans les racines de tige et leur diminution progressive au fil des repousses, suggèrent que ces organismes sont en compétition avec d'autres agents pathogènes. La présence de Pythium arrhenomanes pourrait expliquer cette situation, d'autant plus que les cannes à sucre à Barbade présentent des symptômes équivalents à ceux provoqués par ce champignon en Australie (Poor Root Syndrome).
