Buscando enfermar a Thrips palmi Karny (Thysanoptera: Thipidae) en Puerto Rico

Abstract

EI tripido asiatico amarillo, Thrips palmi, encontrado en Puerto Rico en 1987, es un insecta polifago de irnportancia economica mundial que adquiere resistcncia a los insecLicidas facilrnente. Con el prop6sito de encontrar una alternativa de control biologico sc evaluaron en laboratorio contra esta plaga los hongos cntomopatogcnicos, Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliaev Paecilomyces sp. Se utilizaron ninfas de Segundo estadio alirnentadas en hojas de berenjena. En las pruebas de patogenicidad se encontro que los hongos M. anisopllae y Paecilomyces sp. infectaron a T. palmi ocasionando su muerte. Para dctcrminar la dosis letal media (DL-50) de Paecilomyces sp. se aplicaron aI tripido 0, 10, 50, 100, 500 Y 1000 conidias por millrnetro cuadrado. Se uliliz6 un diseno ex..perirnental complctamcnte al azar en parcclas divididas, donde la parcela principal rue la conccntracion de conidias y la subparcela el tiempo de mortalidad. Exceptuando al tratarnicnto testigo (0 conidias), todas las concentraciones mataron mas dcl50%de las poblaciones sin difercnciarse estadisLicamente(GL= 5, F= 2.31, p= 0.05). Sin cmbargo.Ia dosis de 100 conidias fue la que mayor porccntajc de mortalidad ocasiono (70.73%) y la que mas rapidamente elirnino cI 50% de la poblacion (8.09 dias)(GL= 10, F= 76.99, P= 0.0 )"). Las mayores rnortalidadcs ocasionadas por Paecilomyces sp. se presentaron entre los SiClC y nuevo dias despucs de aplicar las concentraciones de conidias (Gl= 50, F= 3.12. P= 0.01 **). Se concluye que en Puerto Rico cxiste un rescrvorio promisorio de nuevas asociaciones de enernigos naturales de 1: palmi que sc deben seguir invcstigando,
