Abstract

On a clay loam, 16 varieties of cassava from the Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT) and two local controls were evaluated. The design used was completely randomized plots with four replications. The technology applied to the crop included selection and chemical treatment of stakes, density of 10,000 plants/ha, 20 cm long stakes placed vertically on top of ridge of furrows. A year after, yields obtained were superior to those recorded from the fields of Dominican farmers. Thus, varieties such as: CM—40, ICA—HMC—2, CM—305—41, CM—323—375, ICA-HMC-7 and CM-308-197 increased by four times, and the native cultivars doubled yields commercially achieved in the different regions of the country. No significant damage to the plant by pests or diseases was registered.
