Abstract

Chicken litter is a remainder of the poultry industry, which has been used in the feeding of ruminants as source of fiber and non protein nitrogen. Because of the high content of feces in the litter, it has been questioned whether if it could be a way for parasite infection of the ruminants. Two studies were set to evaluate the effect of the addition of fresh or fermented chicken litter in diets of lambs on the incidence of the parasites. The results revealed that because of the specificity of the gastrointestinal parasites that affect the sheep, fresh or fermented chicken litter is not a via of infection at the present time.
