Tráfico interno de escravos na região de Juiz de Fora na segunda metade do século XIX

Abstract

O presente artigo tem por objetivo analisar o processo de transferências ou migrações forçadas da população escrava em direção às regiões cafeeiras, em decorrência da supressão do tráfico africano, particularmente, em Juiz de Fora, na Zona da Mata de Minas Gerais. As fontes utilizadas foram escrituras de compra e venda de escravos, de hipotecas e de compra e venda de propriedades agrícolas com as informações da matrícula de seus plantéis, além dos dados disponibilizados pelo Recenseamento Geral de 1872 e de outras estatísticas oficiais constantes em correspondência estabelecida entre a Presidência da Província e a Câmara Municipal de Juiz de Fora sobre a população cativa.
