O desempenho educacional como fator de influência na escolha da profissão

Abstract

Este artigo trata do estudo da influência do desempenho de Matemática ao longo da educação básica na escolha de carreiras no ensino superior. A análise foi realizada por meio de duas fases, a primeira calcula uma eficiência relativa educacional em Matemática para cada Estado da Federação, utilizando os dados do Saeb e do Enem. A segunda fase correlaciona esta eficiência com a procura por cursos no vestibular. Se esta correlação for forte e positiva, pode-se dizer que o Estado com maior eficiência educacional em matemática possui uma maior procura por este curso. Os resultados obtidos mostram que os Estados com maior eficiência em relação à matemática, também são aqueles onde os estudantes escolhem as carreiras mais diretamente relacionadas a ela, em particular as engenharias. Além disso, outro resultado encontrado (e mais preocupante) sugere que as carreiras relacionadas à formação de professores na área de exatas, tais como física e matemática, são mais procuradas em Estados com menores eficiências na disciplina de matemática.
