Um Estudo sobre a Vitimização na Cidade de São Paulo

Abstract

Este trabalho aplica a teoria de economia do crime para dados brasileiros. Seguindo os modelos de Becker (1968), Hinderlang et al. (1978) e Cohen et al. (1981), testou-se o impacto de fatores microeconômicos na criminalidade. Para tanto, procurou-se identificar os determinantes de vitimização e de notificação do crime à polícia, via modelo probit, utilizando a pesquisa de vitimização do Instituto Futuro Brasil de 2003. Os principais resultados indicam que os fatores que impactam a probabilidade de vitimização significativamente são as variáveis demográficas, de condição econômica e hábitos pessoais. Os modelos de “estilo de vida” e “oportunidade” mostram bom desempenho.
