Abstract

Gospodarski, ali i svekoliki razvoj nekog gospodarstva i društva danas je nezamisliv bez upotrebe različitih vidova energije kao osnovnih inputa u proizvodnom procesu i svakodnevnom životu građana. Energija je pokretala ljudski razvoj još od prapovijesnih razdoblja civilizacije. Povijesne transformacije društava iz agrarnih gospodarstava, preko industrijske revolucije do informatike ere bile bi nemoguće bez velikog doprinosa energije. Povezanost potrošnje energije i cjelokupnog razvoja društva duga je koliko i sama civilizacija. Energija je postala jedno od najvažnijih svjetskih oruđa, ali i oružja, u suvremenom svijetu te je neophodan strateški čimbenik za napredak sveopće svjetske civilizacije. Danas je život u razvijenim zemljama nezamisliv bez mobitela, automobila, računala i ostalih modernih izuma, a za sve je njih neophodna energija. Potreba za energijom postoji tisućljećima, ali je energetska problematika danas kompleksnija i interdisciplinarnija pa je se analizira kao zasebno znanstveno područje. Energija i gospodarski rast međusobno su korelirani. Bez energije ne bi bilo gospodarskog rasta, a zbog potrebe daljnjeg razvoja otkrivaju se i koriste novi oblici energije. S druge strane bez gospodarskog rasta ne bi bilo potrebe za energijom i njenim raznim oblicima.
