Abstract

This research aims to investigate the impact of the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) index on attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the 11 countries of the Arabian Peninsula region over the period from 2010 to 2020. The research presents a mathematical model to measure the impact of the EoDB index on attracting FDI, which examines the causal relationship among three main variables: the EoDB index, the volume of FDI, and the gross domestic product (GDP). The findings of the research summarized that despite the different impacts of the EoDB index on FDI inward from one country to another and from one period to another, this does not reduce the importance of the EoDB index in influencing incoming foreign investments. This research has explored the impact of the EoDB index on FDI net inflows in the countries of the Arabian Peninsula region and found that in some countries from the Arabian Peninsula (e.g., Iraq, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Bahrain, and Yemen), there is a significant relation between doing business index and FDI net inflows. However, the EoDB index partially impacts attracting FDI in other countries of the Arabian Peninsula, such as in the case of Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Lebanon.
