Abstract

Our symposium in honor of Professor Robert E. Hudec examines the issue of non-discrimination in trade rules. The non-discrimination rule to be explored here is Article I (General Most-Favoured-Nation Treatment) of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). In particular, this study examines the decision in Belgian Family Allowances, a 1952 GATT panel report that Hudec explored in his influential 1975 treatise The GATT Legal System and World Trade Diplomacy.
