Abstract
Several publications have appeared in the field of Technology Management which rank technology management related journals. Several different ranking systems exist for journals For example perceived relevance and quality, citation based and based on author affiliation. Academics also publish at conferences but we have not come across publications that rank conferences. Conference rankings are more complicated than journal rankings. Journal rankings are primarily for publishing purposes. Conferences on the other hand are attended by people for various reasons. In this paper a technology management conference ranking is developed based upon author affiliation. Ranking based on an analysis of author affiliation assumes that one important motive for a participant is to attend high quality research presentations. With that assumption the use of the author affiliation approach is an appropriate choice. Based upon existing rankings of institutes which offer technology management programs a ranking list of affiliations is developed. Subsequently, we compare technology management related conferences such as several years of IAMOT, PICMET, IEEE and the Technology Management Division of the Academy of Management based on this ranking list of institutes. The results provide information for authors, that is, the information can be used to determine which technology management conferences are most beneficial to participate in.
