Abstract

No commercial, economic or any other activity takes place within a vacuum. This book considers business in part of the Pacific Asia region, with a focus on several of the major countries of the Western Pacific. This chapter discusses the historical and cultural influences on East and Southeast Asia, especially China, in order to serve as a background to the central topic of the book, which is financial accounting and reporting in the Pacific Asia region.
