Abstract

Aged fossil-fired power plants are on the great increase in Japan and they need the maintenance for their steady operations. The preventive maintenance (PM) of such systems is requisite to avert the grave trouble such as the emergency stop of power supply. The operating condition of systems after PM cannot return to brand-new because the cumulative fatigue damage of system parts remains and their damage increases sharply after PM. Such degradation of systems has to be evaluated when the maintenance plan is established. In this paper, a system is operated continuously and the PM is done at a prespecified schedule when the cumulative damage level is below a managerial one. When the total damage level exceeds a certain critical one, a system fails. The expected profit until a certain PM time is obtained, and the optimal operation censoring policy is derived, using the theory of cumulative processes.
