Abstract

In this lecture we discuss an intuitive approach to mirror symmetry for Calabi–Yau manifolds. We explain how the generating function for the number of rational curves for a quintic three-fold was originally found using mirror symmetry as well as the geometry of the moduli space of certain String Theories compactified on Calabi–Yau manifolds.
