Abstract

The study confirms that digital transformation plays an important role in improving the operational efficiency of banks based on employees’ perceptions. The data sample includes 275 employees working at commercial banks in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces. Using the FsQCA method, the results show that (i) age and educational level strongly influence the outcomes of digital transformation; (ii) digital transformation is comprehensive, involving three different factors: people, internal factors, and external factors of the bank; (iii) certain configurations help banks overcome potential risks of digital transformation, such as budget constraints, lack of communication, or understanding of new processes; and (iv) digital experience is a key factor in overcoming risks arising from banking regulations and compliance.
