Abstract

In principle, everyone agrees that project quality management is crucial for project success; it should be forethought and everyone in the project team including all stakeholders should commit to it. However, in practice, based on the project priorities and due to the competing nature of the requirements and constraints, it could become an afterthought and some critical elements concerning quality management could be pushed to the backburner. This is the very reason the project needs to focus on IT project quality management. To achieve great results with project quality management, everyone needs to have a simple but clear understanding of what quality is all about. Ensuring the success of quality management of an IT project is critical for the business success of the project and the organization. The ability to have a sustainable business model depends on the quality of the delivery from the project team to the customers. While there are many measures of quality, the ultimate measure of quality is if the results of the IT projects are working seamlessly in production with the expected level of fit to the purpose of end users and with no downtime. To ensure this, the key pillars of quality management, namely, planning, quality assurance, and quality control, need to be well understood.
