Abstract

The chapter on multiple imputation methods to predict electoral results combines socio-political theories with multiple imputation procedures to predict electoral outcomes. Taking advantage of the Stata module for missing data we use simple and chained procedures, as well as different models of electoral behavior, to reach the conclusion that the use of imputation techniques consistently improves the predictive capabilities for electoral forecasting in the general election held in 2011 in Spain. In particular, we observe that the univariate models, rather than the chained ones, those that don’t use the recall of past vote in the last election, and those that include neither the assessment of the economic situation nor the assessment of government performance provide better results.
