Abstract

In Slovenia, there is a network of 17 regional counselling centres for adult education. All counselling centres operate according to the same basic principles in the advisory process, which are: confidentiality and secrecy of personal data, impartiality, objectivity, empathy, accessibility and openness for all alike. Counselling centres for adult education have a dual task. The first is providing quality and professional information and counselling for adults, and the second is the cooperation and coordination of organizations and partners in the region that deal with adult education in the partner network. The main goal of the counselling centres is to increase the inclusion of adults in formal and non-formal education in Slovenia. In addition to consulting, counselling centres also carry out procedures for evaluating and recognizing informally acquired knowledge. Adult education counselling centres have been always important, in recent years they have gained increased importance in the European space, as counsellors bring for many adults a new beginning and, through counselling, motivation and education, change lives of individuals and whole society. In addition, for quality counselling work must be provided a sufficient number of counsellors, stable and sufficient funding, continuous professional development and professional support in their development.
