Cross-Curriculum Approaches For A More Efficient Teaching And Learning

In our Secondary school of electrical engineering and technical gymnasium more and more teachers acknowledge the importance of interdisciplinary teaching and are aware of the benefits cross-curriculum approaches bring to a stimulating learning environment. As a secondary school teacher of English I find it most appealing to combine a variety of topics to be discussed during English lessons, whether it is from history, geography, mathematics or biology. I have found numerous opportunities to link different subject areas and I strongly believe that group project work has proved to be the most effective way of encouraging students to be active in linking various concepts and contents. It is truly satisfactory to observe students complementing each other’s knowledge and skills as well as developing critical thinking, which results in a better understanding of a particular topic from a broader perspective and contributes to a greater motivation to reach a particular goal.
