Geography Is Fun!

The topic presents variety of pedagogical methods used when teaching geography in Secondary school of electronics and technical gymnasium. The mutual work of students and a teacher is responsible for a positive classroom atmosphere, which contributes to a better learning. While working in pairs or groups students discuss different geographical topics. Sometimes they are addressed to prepare a scenario and a play about a different geographical theme or a problem. The students use known facts and the knowledge they have gained. Jigsaw puzzles, for maximum learning, lead into a relaxed classroom atmosphere, at the same time students also discover something new. Students also showed their responsibility when we hosted a kindergarten group of children. The children attended geography lessons and learned the regional geography of Slovenia. Students helped the teacher and were presented as tutors to the young. Geography is fun and one of the approaches that employed the geographical theme in a different, dramatic and visual way was kamishibai. Sometimes students are allowed to use smart phones in order to find different information on the internet. They use the new details or data when addressing the current situations in the modern world. The new lesson can be also introduced with the music, a song or a poem. Students are encouraged to ask questions, we are open to new/their ideas, the subject reaches beyond the student's book and the emphasis is also on the modernisation of lessons.
