Abstract

The future European space needs to be understood as a space of fruitful confrontation between several different cultural codes, which may have dysfunctional elements, at least partially if this process will not be skillfully managed. This is why, not only people have to be prepared to insert themselves in new realities, but also institutions to receive and accommodate persons with particular value codes. Of course, each person will have an inclusive initial unity that will be always above new spiritual elements. Generally, humans are not used to accept the idea that we are differently constituted, that we cannot align everyone to the same value standards and one size does not fit all and thus feel culpable. Consequently, the others disapprove or exclude persons that are different, especially those that are unfaithful or non-conformists. Mutual tolerance and understanding can be developed through advanced education in order to welcome and respect the differences of the other. Intercultural education represents in this regard, an avenue of major importance. To accept the difference and interdependence, to create the conditions for one’s personality’s expression, to make the foundations of a supportive behavior, all these represents a new “Copernican revolution” that education is called to achieve at the beginning of this new millennium.
