Abstract

This chapter proposes in a progressive manner thirteen exercises related to the Markovian modelling (pumping system) and fifteen exercises related to the Petri net modelling (service station). The Markovian related exercises encompass: Markov graph building: with/without common cause failure, cold/hot standby, single/several repair teams and for availability or unreliability calculations; Markov graph calculations: availability, unreliability and production availability. The Petri net related exercises encompass: PN building: queuing and refuelling process of the cars with/without pump failures, with/without limit on arrival and cash queues, opening/closure of the station at night, limited/unlimited number of spare parts; PN simulation: number of cars refuelling their tank, length of arrival and cash queues, number of lost sales due to too long queues. Ten Markovian exercises and eleven PN exercises can be achieved by hand and three Markovian exercises and four PN exercises require the use of a computing software. They have been dimensioned to be achievable by using the free demo version of the GRIF-Workshop (2020) software package.
