Abstract

The semi-quantitative analysis is the natural continuation of the qualitative analysis described in Chap. 17 . This chapter explains how to obtain a more accurate ranking of the minimal cut sets by considering their probabilities instead of their order. It also gives indications on how to take the common cause failures into account. The calculation of the minimal cut set probabilities directly leads to the use of the Vesely-Fussell importance factor analysed in more detail in Chap. 24 and which provides useful information about the impact of the failure of one component on the probability of the overall system failure.
